Many people turn to over-the-counter and/or prescription creams, gels or serums to improve their face’s appearance. And, while many of these products can help improve the look of aging skin, they are not as effective as laser skin resurfacing, which can greatly improve your skin’s look, texture and elasticity.*
Laser Skin Resurfacing Explained
Dr. Smith performs laser skin resurfacing using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser to destroy sections of the skin layer by layer. New skin grows to replace the damaged skin, creating a smoother and more vibrant appearance.*
Laser skin resurfacing is very precise, which prevents damage to the surrounding skin and tissue. This procedure is typically performed on the face, but can also be used to improve other areas on your body as well.
The CO2 laser is extremely powerful and should be used on your skin only by a trained medical professional. This laser can help minimize the look of deep lines and wrinkles, correct age spots and other pigmentation problems, and even treat such skin conditions as acne, acne scars, tattoos, moles, birthmarks.

What To Expect During Your Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your skin, you and Dr. Smith will discuss the results you would like to see in regards to your skin’s appearance, as well as what he feels can be accomplished. He then will treat the appropriate areas based on your needs and the results you expect to see.
Once your treatment is completed, Dr. Smith or his staff will place ointments to the areas of your face treated with the laser. Your skin may itch and peel afterwards.
Dr. Smith or his trained medical staff will speak to you about how to care for your face after treatment and will provide you with complete instructions on how to care for the treated area at home. For best results, be sure to follow these directions completely.
Beginning about 24 hours after your laser skin resurfacing treatment, you will have to clean the treated area four or five times a day, applying an ointment Dr. Smith recommends.
You also should sleep with an extra pillow to elevate your head (this helps reduce swelling) and you should sleep only on your back. Make sure you get as much rest as possible and limit the amount of movement for as long as Dr. Smith recommends.
Any pain you experience is often treatable with over-the-counter medications. Dr. Smith can prescribe stronger medication to help reduce pain if you should experience extreme discomfort.
The majority of laser skin resurfacing patients are very happy with their ultimate results. Dr. Smith will work diligently to ensure that you’re very pleased with your skin’s new appearance.
