VASER Hi-Def liposuction not only removes unwanted fat from your body, it can actually “chisel” your muscles for greater and noticeable definition.
VASER Hi-Def liposuction differs from “regular” VASER liposuction in that it better contours areas treated, leaving you with more muscle definition.
VASER Hi-Def liposuction is particularly good for men who want a more defined chest (pectoral) area and/or see more definition in their abdominals (the “six-pack”). The procedure is great for anyone who wants more arm/shoulder, waist and thigh definition.
Generally, individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or less are the best candidates for this procedure. Your skin also should be relatively taut and elastic (it snaps back quickly if pinched).
VASER is an acronym for Vibration Amplification for Sound Energy at Resonance. It uses ultrasound technology to break up areas of targeted fat. In laymen’s terms, it “shakes” up the fat so that your surgeon can then suck it out using a small, slender cannula tube connected to an aspiration machine. The ultrasound technology also differentiates the fat targeted for removal from other important tissues (such as blood vessels, connective tissue and nerves).
VASER Hi-Def liposuction is best used on individuals who already are fairly thin, but who are having trouble losing fat in hard-to-lose places (love handles, abs, shoulders, etc.) and who are looking for increased definition in these areas.
If you desire a greater amount of fat removal, traditional liposuction, SmartLipo (laser) and VASER liposuction may be better for you. For more information on these liposuction procedures, please click on the links located in the menu to the right.
VASER Hi-Def liposuction requires that the surgeon performing it be trained specifically in the VASER technology. He or she also should have extensive knowledge of static and dynamic muscular anatomy. Dr. Smith is one of a the few surgeons with extensive training and experience in VASER Hi-Def liposuction.
Because VASER Hi-Def liposuction is general performed under anesthesia, Dr. Smith performs the procedure in the Smith Plastic Surgery accredited surgery center.
Dr. Smith then makes a very small incision (no more than one-quarter inch in length) and fills the area from which fat will be removed with a special saline solution (also known as tumescent fluid). This helps numb the area and also shrinks blood vessels, helping to reduce blood loss as well as post-procedure bruising.
He then breaks up the fatty tissue with the VASER ultrasound energy by inserting a tiny probe through the incision(s), breaking the fat cells up. He then uses a small, tubular cannula tool to gently suck the fat from the area.
Finally he uses specific techniques learned during his VASER training and experience to chisel the area’s muscles for a defined appearance.
As with any form of liposuction, you will experience some pain, swelling and bruising. Dr. Smith and his team will ask that you wear a special compression garment for approximately four weeks as the area heals. The garment helps keep your skin smooth, reducing sagging and unwanted “rippling.” You should wear the garment all the time, except for when showering.
You also should make sure your keep your physical activities moderate while you wear the garment, although you should be able to return to work in just a few days. You should be able to return to your usual exercise routine in about four weeks or so.
There are risks associated with VASER Hi-Def liposuction, as there are with any surgical procedure. Some risks include swelling, scarring, infection, bruising, bleeding, loose skin, and adverse reaction to the anesthesia.
Dr. Smith is an expert at VASER Hi-Def liposuction and has had numerous extremely satisfied patients.
